The volume of waste processed at waste management facilities has recently been decreasing due to factors such as population decline and better recycling programs. There are many small-scale waste treatment plants (less than 100 tons/day) in Japan. Many of such facilities in provinces are due for renewal.
These plants are often not equipped with power generation systems due to the poor life-cycle cost performance even if they introduced such systems. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Environmental & Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. offers a high-efficiency waste energy generation and recovery system, which enables smaller facilities to produce a stable power supply and to benefit from low life-cycle costs. The article features the system installed at the Omihachiman Environment & Energy Center.
