Inverters used in air conditioners output a current with harmonic components other than power supply frequency that will flow back to a power supply system. This harmonic current may cause problems, such as a power supply voltage distortion, that can damage other devices connected to the system in some cases. Therefore, the level of harmonic current is required to satisfy a regulation value according to regulations or guidelines. MHI developed an active filter, as an optional equipment of a heat pump chiller MSV, which outputs a current that will cancel out the harmonic current from an inverter, reducing the distortion of input current of MSV from 31.3% to 3.5%.
