High-performance Multi-stage Pendulum TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) for Resonance Suppression of High-rise Building Sway by the Long-period Earthquake Ground Motion
In the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, high-rise buildings in Tokyo and Osaka, far away from the seismic center, noticeably shook due to the long-period seismic ground motion, and damage occurred such as ceiling finishing materials falling. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to make it mandatory to conduct a study into the long-period seismic ground motion of high-rise buildings to be constructed after April 2017, on the assumption that a huge earthquake would occur along the Nankai Trough, and the importance of measures against long-period seismic ground motion has been increasing. To accommodate the needs for measures having a higher vibration damping effect, Taisei Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machinery Systems, Ltd. jointly developed the high-performance pendulum-type tuned mass damper T-M Damper®.
