The Nagasaki Research & Development Center specializes in ships and offshore structures. Comprehensive studies on ship hull forms, propellers and offshore structures are conducted in the experimental tank complex, which consists of a towing tank, a seakeeping & maneuvering basin, a shallow water basin, an ice tank and a cavitation tunnel. It is the world's largest, among private enterprises.
Research and development at the center is geared toward investigating performance, economics, and safety of merchant ships, naval ships, floating structures and underwater vehicles, while maintaining close contact with international research organizations and Ship & Ocean Engineering Division of MHI.
