 "Wakamaru" was designed following the safety standards used for toys so that fingers cannot get stuck in the gap under the arms and elbows.
Under the guidance of an ophthamologist, the fingers were made of soft and smooth material to prevent any sharp edges, so as to cause the least harm possible in the case of contact with eyes.
The movement of the extremities and wheels has been confirmed not to cause any serious injury in the case of collision due to any malfunction through experiments with dummy dolls used in bicycle collision tests. |

| Safe movement |
Even for a "collision safe" robot, it would be a matter of concern if the robot were to collide with people and objects everyday. "Wakamaru" can see and avoid walls and obstacles in its course using ultrasonic and infrared sensors. It may be configured to stop at the occurrence of any contact with the bumpers on its shoulders and hands. During operation, the force of movement of the extremities and head are carefully monitored. If these come into contact with a person or object, such movement will be controlled relative to the person or object. Furthermore, if anything gets stuck in the sides, there is a release switch to stop the movement of the extremities.
There is also a bag switch to stop any movement if the bag opens up. |

Just as with any other product, using "wakamaru" in the wrong environment or without following instructions may cause bodily harm. For example, injuries may be expected if you climb or fall while holding onto "wakamaru."
In order to avoid such risks as much as possible, we have attached to the product easy to understand warnings made especially for children, in addition to the instructions. These explanations and warnings are meant to ensure proper use. |
