Designed using leading advanced robot technology.
Advanced robot technology and leading design were used to create a communication robot with its own "independent
personality."
 A:Name
The name "wakamaru" comes from Ushiwakamaru, the childhood name of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a famous general from the Heian Period, and is meant to signify "growth" and "development."
 B:Recognizing
People
When "wakamaru" hears people talking or sees them moving around, It approaches them, recognizes
their faces, and speaks to them. "Wakamaru" can distinguish the features of a person's face, and can remember
up to ten people, including one owner.
 C:Cameras
"Wakamaru" uses the image from the cameras attached to its head to see where it is and move
through the house according to pre-recorded routes.
 D:Speaking
"Wakamaru" selects topics of conversation on the basis of the user's interests, what that
person is doing at the moment, and so on. It also adjusts the volume of its voice.
 E:Height/Weight
Height: 100 cm
Diameter: 45 cm
Weight: Around 30 kg
"Wakamaru" is about the size of a kindergarten
student.
 F:Joints
"Wakamaru's" neck, shoulders and elbows move just like a human's. When it talks to you, It
finds your face and looks you in the eyes, and communicates through body movement as well.
 G:Sense
of Touch and Sense of Force
"Wakamaru" can sense touch with its shoulders and palms and force (through collision sensors)
with its arms.
 H:Getting
Around
"Wakamaru" moves at 1 km/h on wheels. To ensure safety, It moves slowly around the house. It automatically
avoids objects thanks to its sensors in order to reach its destination.
 I:Automatic
Recharging
When its built-in battery starts to run down, "wakamaru" heads for its charging station and
automatically recharges itself, requiring no outside help. It can operate for a maximum of two hours on one charge. |
