Development of Noncontact Blade Vibration Measuring System

Noncontact measurement to determine vibratory properties in rotating turbine blades was developed. Electromagnetic sensors at the stationary side measure turbine blade pass times. This system determines vibration in all blades in the same row using signal processing with Campbell diagrams. The new vibration measurement has advantages over conventional strain gage use, e. g., eliminating all work on rotors and simplifying simultaneous vibration measurement at all blades. This system is now operating at our manufacturing shop to verify high quality and reliability of turbine rotors shipped from our plant.
