Main propulsion for large ships
Low-speed diesel engines are mainly used as main engines for large vessels as the picture shows, such as oil tankers, container vessels and pure car carriers. More than 90% of these vessels are driven by low speed diesel engines.
Low-speed diesel engines are one of the most efficient power systems with a thermal efficiency of approximately 50%. This is why they are used for large vessels, which require higher cost-effectiveness.
