The V2500 is the product of an international joint
development in which seven companies participated from five countries
including Japan, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and Italy. MHI joined
as a member of the Japan Aero Engine Corporation, and was in charge
of manufacturing the low pressure compressor and casing for high
pressure turbine among other things.
This model is the engine for civilian aircraft, has thrust of 11
to 14 ton class, and high reliability of low fuel consumption, thus
less pollution. Development started in 1984, and obtained certification
in June 1988.
Currently, it is loaded on the MD-90 of the Boeing Company, and
the A319, A320, and A321 of Airbus Industrie.
