Overview

When returnable spacecrafts or spaceplanes flies in the atmosphere at hypervelocity, the air around the body is extremely compressed and heated to more than 10000°C. This facility simulates the above-mentioned conditions by generating a shock wave with the use of shock-tube principle. Free-piston method is an optimal way to simulate such environment. The principal is shown in the diagram above.

Features

  • It can simulate very-high temperture and very-high pressure environment at the same time.
  • It can measure both aerodynamic and thermodynamic characteristics indicators of a reentering returnable spacecraft at the same time.
  • It can test combustion process of scramjet engines.
