The PW4000 is the product of international joint development in which Pratt &Whitney in the U.S. took a leading part, and companies from Japan, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Korea participated. MHI was in charge of parts for the compressor, turbine, and combustor.
This is a high performance large scale civilian aircraft engine which has a thrust of 25 to 45 ton class, and integrates the most advanced technology for low fuel consumption thus less pollution. It was introduced into the market in 1987, and is loaded on the 747, 767, 777, MD-11 of the Boeing Company, and the A300, A310, and A330 of Airbus Industrie.
