MIRAI

It came into being after "Mutsu", a nuclear-powered vessel, had fulfilled its role and was refitted. It is equipped with greater functionality and has superior capabilities compared to traditional observation vessels, having a larger hull, a unique device to lessen swaying, an ice resistant structure that enables her to go on survey voyages in ice infested waters where the hydrographic conditions are harsh and pre-existing observation data is scarce, such as in high latitude ocean areas and polar regions.
