Fuel Supply

Design

Mitsubishi group' s nuclear fuel provides reliable products, in full coordination with the design of nuclear power plants, under close coordination with the core design and fuel development departments, taking advantage of state-of-the-art systems.
  • Core Design:
    Mitsubishi provides core management techniques to safely and efficiently use the nuclear fuels, from the basic design of new plants to the detailed design of replacement core for every cycle in existing plants. Mitsubishi also provides a wide variety of services such as advanced core management/operation support using online monitoring systems.
  • Improvement of fuel performance:
    Mitsubishi is working on the development of high burn-up fuel(55Gwd/t) to extend the fuel loading period, and of higher-performance fuel.

Manufacture

In Mitsubishi group, MHI is responsible for fuels design and core design and Mitsubishi Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd.(MNF) is in charge of nuclear fuel manufacturing. MNF is the sole integrated manufacturer in Japan that manufactures nuclear fuels from reconversion processing to fabrication of fuel assemblies, and has a considerable experience.
In order to ensure a high quality on a firm basis, a reliable and appropriate quality assurance system has been implemented in every manufacturing process, applying detailed and precise inspections utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

R & D

In the area of research & development of power plants, Mitsubishi group has the MHI Takasago R&D Center where a wide variety of research and development from basic researches in material to applied technical researches have been performed, and also has laboratories of Nuclear Development Corporation(NDC) in Tokai-mura in Ibaragi prefecture where specialized research and development such as nuclear fuel, fuel cycle and reactor material have been carried out in its own hot lab facilities.
Mitsubishi is proceeding with a wide variety of research and development in collaboration with domestic and international research bodies and manufacturers to further improve the reliability and performances.
