Mitsubishi Energy Recovery System (MERS)

Main Features

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. has been manufacturing a great number of Turbine Generators for Marine use to date shince we have commenced manufacturing in 1908.
More than 400 sets of Waste Heat Recovery Steam Turbine Generator for Main Diesel Engines have been introduced into the market till now with economizer and steam turbine generator equipped as package. In response to environmental problems and energy saving issures, which is becoming more and more serious, there is a growing need for the high-efficient power plants in recent years.
MHI is an only company to produce an economizer, turbocharger, and steam turbine as one set with our own technology in consideration of the above issures.
MHI is proud of introducing our Energy Saving Power Generating System here to satisfy the recent requirement.

Eco-TG System (Without gas bypass)

This is a conventional system which has been applied to the Turbine Generators currently in service.
Not so great amount of power generation can be expected.

With extracting an exhaust gas partially form main engine to economizer, this system realized more amount of power generation by increasing economizer stem and temperature.
The powr generation amount is 1.5 to 1.8 times more than above system.

PTG System(Power Turbine Generating System)

Exhaust gas of the main engine is extracted to drive power turbine generator. There is no need for big exhaust gas boiler, steam turbine, vacuum condenser. This system can be compact, and possible to retrofit.

STG System(Super Turbo Generating System)

STG System(Super Turbo Generating System)

This system extracts an exhaust gas partially from main engine as above (2) system, but then it drives an Exhaust Gas Power Turbine, which is connected to steam turbine with SSS Clutch.
2.4 to 2.8 times more power generation than above (1) system can be realized with this system.
In case the STG power generation exceeds an electric demand in the vessel, the surplus power can assinst the main thrust shaft through shaft generator to reduce the main engine fuel consumption.

Marine Machinery Designing Department of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. consists of 4 designing sections of Marine Boiler, Marine Turbine, Turbo Charger, and Marine Machinery Equipment such as Propeller and Steering. This is the one and only manufacturer which offer whole system of WHRS in the world.

Thanks to this advantage of being as a Single Supplier, MHI has established own Whole System control management of designing and manufacturing; moreover, MHI can offer satisfactory service to customers under Single Responsibility due to this unique production system. In addition to whole system performance and cost competitiveness, MHI has fully prepared to meet any requirement and demand after ship's delivery having one window to the customers.
