Flue Gas Desulfurization Plant
MHI's flue gas desulfurization plant is the leading technology in the world withe over the last 30 years industrial operation.
In the countermeasure of environmental problem, MHI developed flue gas desulfurization plant (hereinafter referred to FGD plant) for the SOx removal and has played a leading role for the protection of the environment since he reached its commercial phase in1972.
MHI's FGD plant has following features;
- a. The leading technology in the world with over the last 30 years industrial operation
- b. The leading market share domestically and internationally with 204 reference plants
- c. High performance plant with MHI's advanced technology
MHI is also very well known for its power plants as well as for environmental pollution control facilities, such as denitrification (De-NOx) equipment, electrostatic precipitators (ESP), flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment, wastewater treatment equipment and stacks.
The company's expertise in all aspects of the power systems industry, from boilers to stacks, is incorporated in its FGD technologies, resulting in a highly economical FGD system.
MHI offers comprehensive service from feasibility studies to operation and maintenance of FGD Systems.

2. What's DCFS?
MHI has developed new technology and made it practicable as the leading company of FGD plant manufacturer. Especially DCFS (Double Contact Flow Scrubber) is the notable scrubber. DCFS is MHI's own technology and its market share domestically and internationally with 89 reference plants.
Mechanism of DCFS
The following illustration is the representative process flow of FGD plant.
What's FGD plant?
FGD plant removes poisonous gas components such as SO2 contained in the untreated gas discharged from a coal or oil-fired boiler, sintering plant and so on. Also FGD plant is highly capable of removing particulate matter. Furthermore, FGD plant product gypsum as by-product and it is recycled as gypsum board or cement. Thus FGD plant is the resource-recycling type and environment-friendly plant.
MHI's FGD plant has the following features;
(1) Applicable to a variety of flue gases
MHI’s FGD plant is capable of treating various flue gases from sintering furnaces or chemical plants, as well as from coal- or heavy-oil-fired power plants.
(2) High SO2 removal efficiency
DCFS is able to achieve high removal efficiency throughout a wide range of SO2 concentrations.
(3) Highly economical
Low investment cost and low operation cost due to high performance and low back pressure nozzles.
(4) High reliability
High reliability and performance proven in plants now in operation.
(5) Easy operation and maintenance
Easy operation and maintenance due to the simplified inner structure of DCFS (single stage spray header and no packing)
(6) Availability of various processes
The optimum process for any gypsum quality requirement, from commercial to disposable grade, can be offered according to customer requirements.
MHI has delivered 204 FGD plants of various sizes and types. The following plants are MHI's representative FGD plants.
