SDA Pitch-Firing Reconstruction Work on No. 3 Boiler
for Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's Mizushima Plant Complete
In July 2009, SDA pitch-firing reconstruction work on the No. 3 boiler (450 t/h) for Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's Mizushima Plant was safely completed, and a grand completion ceremony was held in August.
The construction aims to reduce energy costs by converting the fuel of the boiler, supplied by MHI in 1970, from asphalt-fired to residual oil (pitch)-fired.
Residual oil (pitch), produced through the solvent de-asphalting process (SDA) newly set up by Nippon Petroleum Refining Co., Ltd. located in the same Mizushima industrial complex, will be used.
Due to this reconstruction work, the boiler will continue to be used by Mitsubishi Chemical as one of its main facilities, and MHI will continue to offer maintenance support.
