Supplying State-of-the-Art Blast Furnace Ventilators
The first lighting of the new No.1 blast furnace was performed at Wakayama Steel Works, Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. on July 17,2009, following the upgrading of the No. 5 and 6 blast furnace ventilators (30MW / unit 2 units) by MHI.
These upgrades will increase wind volume by 20% and wind pressure by 25% by combining the capacity from the new No.1 blast furnace with the ventilators supplied by MHI in 1966.
The trial runs for the ventilators were completed in March (No.6) and June (No.5) of this year successfully.
In order to reduce costs, it is essential to appropriate the foundation for existing equipment and facilities and get them to fit within limited space. As such, we shortened the total length of the ventilators by 20% from conventional models and bundled them in a compact manner by using the latest technology.
We incorporated the latest gas turbine technology into the blade design, thereby improving reliability.
Furthermore, adopting chase-resistant materials also enhances the durability of these state-of-the-art ventilators.
