Kansai Electric Power Sakaiko Power Station New Unit No.1
Starts Commercial Operation

On April 1, 2009, delivery of The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. Sakaiko Power Station new unit No.1 was completed without problems, and commercial operation began. New unit No.2 through No.5 are scheduled to follow, for 2000MW power output when all are completed.
This facility is a 400MW shaft output high efficiency gas turbine combined cycle power plant with a 1500°C class M501G gas turbine using MHI’s latest technology, a steam turbine and generator installed on single shaft configuration for a clean power plant which suppresses NOx and CO2 generation.

This is a plan for renewal construction of the existing power plant (2000MW). The plan uses much of the common facilities, for both economy and environmental friendliness.
New unit No.1 is the first power plant , delivered in about 30 months since the start of civil works in October 2006, and is operating as a core power station of the customer. MHI is earnestly working for smooth construction and commissioning without accident until final plant delivery.
