Clean Coal Power R&D Co., Ltd. Wins the “Prime Minister Prize” of the Japan Industrial Technology Grand Prize with its IGCC Demonstration plant
On April 8 2009, the awards ceremony for the Japan Industrial Technology Grand Prize was hosted by The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Ltd. at a hotel in Tokyo. Clean Coal Power Co., Ltd. (CCP) was praised for its IGCC (Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle) demonstration plant, and presented with the highest award: the Prime Minister Prize. Each year, this award selects technology results which contributed to Japan’s industrial technology development, and awards the organization which developed and implemented it, encouraging development of revolutionary large scaled technologies.
This facility is a 250MW output generating air blown IGCC demonstration plant. MHI delivered it to CCP as a full turn key project. Demonstration program began in September 2007, and it was highly regarded for quickly achieving a long continuous running time of over 2000 hours. Air blown IGCC has 20% higher plant efficiency than conventional coal fired power plant, enabling resource conservation and reduced CO2 emissions. Coal is a valuable resource which can be supplied cheaply and abundantly, and coal utilization technology based on IGCC is expected to make great contributions to global energy and alleviating CO2 problems.
