Thailand EGAT South Bangkok Combined Cycle Power Plant Block III
launches commercial operation

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), South Bangkok Combined Cycle Power Plant Block III launched its commercial operation on 28 October 2008.
The power plant has been contributing to meat electricity demand increasing due to the development of economics and industry in Bangkok area and Samutprakarn Province, Thailand.

The power plant was jointly awarded to the consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation and Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Ltd. (STECON) as a full turn-key project, including demolition and re-location work of the existing facilities.
MHI supplied a state-of-the-art “2-2-1” configuration combined cycle power plant (net output 746.7 MW) consisting of M701F gas turbines, triple pressure heat recovery steam generators, TC-2F steam turbine, and associated facilities. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation supplied electrical generators and a 230kV switchyard. STECON was in charge of civil, structural and construction work.

MHI has been serving to the power industries of Thailand with EGAT for over 30 years, starting from South Bangkok Thermal Power Plant unit 1 to 5 (1,330MW) in 1970’s. Now the total installed generation capacity by MHI exceeds 9 GW, which accounts for more than 50% of EGAT’s electricity generation capacity.
