MHI completes delivery of Iceland Hellisheidi geothermal power plant unit No.3 and 4

On September 4 and October 24, MHI completed delivery of Hellisheidi geothermal power plant unit No. 3 and 4 (consist of two 40MW geothermal turbines) ordered by Reykjavik Energy, and they began commercial operation.

These are the ninth and tenth geothermal turbines that MHI has delivered to Iceland, starting with the Krafla Power Plant (two 30MW geothermal turbines) which Reykjavik Energy started operation in 1976. Since then, MHI has delivered a total 340MW output of geothermal power plant to Iceland, contributing to stable power supply in Iceland.

This is a turnkey contract project which MHI received with its German consortium partner Balcke Durr GmbH. MHI is in charge of supply and installation of turbines and peripheral equipment including installation of generators which were supplied by Mitsubishi Electric Power Company. While Balcke Durr is in charge of the condensers, cooling towers and their peripheral equipment. MHI takes on the project consortium leader.
MHI also received an order anew from Reykjavik Energy in 2008 for five 45MW geothermal turbines. MHI will plan and manufacture them, for deliveries planned to start in 2010.
