3MW solar power facility order is received from Korean company

MHI together with Sojitz Pla-Net Corporation (a fully owned plastics subsidiary of Sojitz Corporation), received an order for a total 3MW of photovoltaic modules. The order was placed by Taihan Techren Co., Ltd., a Korean solar cell system integrator. MHI will produce and supply two types of thin film photovoltaic modules, which are amorphous type and micro morph tandem type. Thin film photovoltaic modules reduce silicon use to approximately 1/100th the amount used in currently common crystal photovoltaic modules.

This uses little energy during manufacture, which also brings large reductions in CO2 emissions, so these are attracting attention as environmentally friendly next generation photovoltaic modules. This is also Korea’s largest solar power project using thin film photovoltaic modules, planned for completion the end of September 2008, with electricity production starting in October.
