Commercial operations for the GTCC power plant begin at the
Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant No.1 unit
Commercial operation for the No. 1 unit at the Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Plant (400MW-grade gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) plant × 2 series) was initiated on April 1, 2008.
This project is for full turn key construction which was ordered of MHI. MHI is supplying gas turbine 701F, steam turbine TC2F, an exhaust heat recovery boiler, and plant facilities, with Mitsubishi Electric providing power generators and other electrical facilities.
This power plant was constructed on land owned by Nippon Oil Corporation in the coastal regions of Kawasaki in order for Kawasaki Natural Gas Power Generation Co., Ltd. (established in November 2001 through joint investment by Nippon Oil Corporation and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.) to engage in power generation with the objective of supplying electricity to the likes of power producers and suppliers (PPS).
Following the start of commercial operation for the No. 1 unit, MHI will handle overall maintenance of the power plant as a whole pursuant to a long term service agreement (LTSA), thereby contributing to the stable supply of electric power.
The No. 2 unit is scheduled to enter into commercial operation in October 2008.
