IGCC demonstration plant achieves rated load of 250MW
On March 7, integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) demonstration plant supplied to Clean Coal Power (CCP) R&D Co., Inc. in Nakoso, Fukushima Prefecture achieved a rated load of 250MW.
IGCC is a high efficiency power generation system that uses coal which excels in supplying low cost energy in a stable manner. Furthermore, IGCC discharges low amounts of CO2, which causes global warming, and heated effluent when compared to the conventional coal firing systems, making it an environmentally-friendly technology for coal fired power generation.
MHI with Mitsubishi Electric have supplied the IGCC demonstration plant to CCP as a full turn key project, including the supply of main facilities such as air-blown gasifier facilities, wet-type gas clean-up facilities, and 1,200°C-class gas turbine facilities.
Construction was initiated in 2004, and commissioning tests, inspections, and so on have been implemented since the ignition of the gasifier on September 20 last year. On March 7, a rated load of 250MW was achieved.
Long-term, continuous operation is scheduled to begin in the first half of this fiscal year with a view toward commercialization.
