MHI provides Chinese company with “MACH-30G” gas engine technology

MHI has decided to provide the license for its “MACH-30G” power generating gas engine to CSR Ziyang Locomotive Co, Ltd. (CSR Ziyang), with the both companies signing the contract on February 25, 2008. The engines in question include MACH-30G gas engines with 12 to 18 cylinders (and an output of roughly 3MW to 5MW). CSR Ziyang plans to produce the MACH-30G at its own factory in Sichuan Province and then sell them throughout China.

China is experiencing a tightening in the supply of and demand for electricity in the wake of its recent economic growth, while at the same time environmental measures have come to pose a significant challenge. Gas engines which generate power by using clean fuel are considered to be one means of resolving such challenges, and there are high hopes for their dissemination in the future. In China, the diffusion of large gas engines which have the same level of output as the MACH-30G has not yet made progress. The envisioned scheme is to actively market the engines to coal mining companies which produce power by using methane gas from the coal mines, as well as to large-scale factories which are capable of using natural gas in coastal areas, which are experiencing remarkable development.

CSR Ziyang is an engine manufacturer located in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province. The large-scale company has approximately 10,000 employees, and until now has mainly engaged in the production of diesel engines for locomotives. They possess the high technical strength for small engines developed by themselves, and also have a quality control structure in place. In addition, CSR Ziyang also has a sales and warranty service network covering the whole of China which it established through sales of its locomotive engines. It is anticipated that the company will be a strong partner for MHI when it comes to developing the market for the MACH-30G gas engine within China, in terms of both production and sales.

MHI is aiming to promote sales of its MACH-30G in the Chinese market by providing CSR Ziyang with the license.
