Chugoku Electric Power Company's Mizushima Power Station begins construction work converting No.1 unit to GTCC power plant
Installation construction work has started for converting to the gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant at Chugoku Electric Power Corporation's Mizushima Power Station No.1 unit. The ground-breaking ceremony for the waste heat recovery boiler was held on December 19, 2007.
This project converts No.1 unit (made by Hitachi) of the Mizushima Power Station fuel in Kurashiki city of Okayama prefecture from coal to natural gas. This will upgrade it to a high efficiency, low CO2 emission GTCC power plant, with 285MW output on completion.
This plant will be comprised of 1 new gas turbine, 1 new waste heat recovery boiler, and 1 pre-existing steam turbine. Hitachi will upgrade the pre-existing steam turbine into specifications for the GTCC power plant. MHI is in charge of design, manufacturing, installation, and test operation of the new facility, with transfer planned for April 1, 2009.
