Korea KDHC Hwaseong cogeneration power plant begins operations

Hwaseong Cogeneration Power Plant of Korea District Heating Corporation (KDHC) was fully completed on November 30, 2007, and began operations.

Hwaseong Cogeneration Power Plant is built about 40km south of Seoul, in Hwaseong city, Gyeonggi province. It supplies new residential areas with electricity and hot water for floor heating.
It provides 550MW of electric power. The plant is an LNG fired combined cycle power plant, comprised of 2 M501F gas turbines, 1 steam turbine, 2 heat recovery boilers, electric generators, etc.

Functional tests of combined operation were completed, and performance tests in the hot water operation mode related to hot water load demand was successfully completed on January 24, 2008. The completion ceremony will be held in March, 2008.

MHI was in charge of the design, manufacturing, and integrated test operation of the gas turbines and steam turbine, which are the core of the power generation facility. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation manufactured the electric generators.
Construction, installation, and procurement of the heat recovery boilers were handled by the consortium partners Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., and POSCO Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd.
