Mexico wind turbine blade plant is expanded

On October 18, a ceremony was held at the VienTek company in Mexico, which supplies 100% of MHI's wind turbine blades destined for the North American market, to mark the opening of its second plant.

VienTek LLC was established in 2002 by Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc., MHI's power system business subsidiary in the U.S., and TPI Composites Inc. of the US, with financing being split 50/50 between the two companies, and it has the capacity to produce 5 blades a day for the 1,000kW wind turbine, and 3.5 blades a day for the 2,400kW wind turbine.

With the expansion of this second plant, production capacity of blades for the 2,400kW wind turbine will double to 7 blades a day, and the company also plans to boost the number of employees, from its present level of 900 to 1,500.
