World's largest wind farm opening ceremony is held in US

On October 2, a ceremony was held to mark the opening of the Cedar Creek wind farm, in the US state of Colorado.

The generating plant consist of a total of 274 wind turbines, of which 221 are MHI-produced 1,000kW models, with the remaining 53 being 1,500kW turbines made by another company. Total combined output is 300MW. In terms of the power capacity of wind farms constructed in one single period, Cedar Creek is the largest in the world, and will supply power to approximately 90,000 homes.

Of the 221 wind turbines produced by MHI, 160 were manufactured at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works, with the remaining 60 coming from the Yokohama Dockyard & Machinery Works. A remaining 21 turbines are due to be completed by the end of the year, at which point construction of the plant will come to an end.
