MHI boosts production capacity of wind turbine to about 1,200MW per year

MHI will boost its current production capacity for wind turbine (about 400MW/year) to 3 times that level, building a production system for 1,200MW per year by fiscal year 2008. This aims at meeting booming demand in North America and many countries throughout the world. About 4 billion yen of capital investments will be made by the same fiscal year, centering on a production line for 2,400kW wind turbine.

To handle this dramatic expansion of production, there will be improvements and expansion at Nagasaki Shipyard and Machinery Works and Yokohama Dockyard and Machinery Works, for their work on nacelles (main structure of the wind turbine), along with expansion of facilities at the VienTek Mexico factory, which is the manufacturing base of blades for North America.
