Replacement of control systems is in progress at Medina Yanbu power station in Saudi Arabia |

In June 2005, MHI began work on an order to install MHI DIASYS Netmation as a replacement for existing control systems at the Saline Water Conversion Corporation's (SWCC) Medina Yanbu power station. The work covers control systems at units 1 through 5 in addition to joint control systems for the power station as a whole.
The Medina Yanbu power station is located in the town of Yanbu which lies on the Red Sea. units No.1 to 5 are desalination and power generation facilities built 25 years ago by MHI in a comprehensive order which included the boilers, turbines and desalination plant. The current control facilities are either analog or relay systems for which future maintenance has become increasingly difficult. Under the current order, these control systems will be replaced with DIASYS Netmation systems. In addition MHI plans to update the instrumentation and control equipment by replacing the turbine control systems (mechanical and turbo master) with digital electro hydraulic (DEH) systems, replacing the turbine monitoring instruments, replacing the automatic synchronizing system (ASS), removing the central operation panel and applying a CRT operation, and finally installing a large-size screen.
The upgrading work began on unit No.3 which restarted operations in mid-November. All work on the other four units and joint control systems is scheduled for completion by September 2006.
The Medina Yanbu power station continues to operate stably without malfunction 25 years after its original construction. Through the above system upgrades, MHI will further increase the reliability of the facility and gain a foothold for spreading the Mitsubishi Thermal Plant and Mitsubishi Control System DIASYS Netmation brands in Saudi Arabia.
