On November 15, 2005, a ceremony was held in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido to mark the completion of the Soya misaki Wind Farm. Cape Soya, Japan's northernmost point, is located at the far north of Hokkaido. The wind farm is situated on a hill in approximately 1500 hectares of grazing land. The wind farm comprises 57 MWT-1000A turbines constructed by MHI. The MWT-1000A is one of MHI's principal turbine models. The wind farm's rated power output is 57 MW, currently the largest power output of any wind farm in Japan. On a clear day, the Russian island of Sahalin is visible from the wind farm. The superb sight of 57 revolving turbines is expected to help the wind farm become a new tourist destination. ![]() |
