MHI receives order for one 110 MW steam turbine generator for use in geothermal power plant in Indonesia

MHI has received an order for one 110 MW steam turbine generator, for use at the Darajat III geothermal power plant in West Java, Indonesia. The plant is being developed by ChevronTexaco Energy Indonesia Ltd. (CTEIL).
A consortium formed by Kanematsu Corporation and PT. Thiess Contractors Indonesia received the main turnkey contract. MHI will supply the steam turbine generator through Kanematsu Corporation, together with Fuji Electric Systems Co., Ltd. who will supply the generator equipment.
CTEIL is developing the Darajat geothermal power plants which exploits steamfields for power generation, and sells the electricity produced to Indonesia Electricity Corporation (PT PLN (Persero)). Construction of Darajat II is complete and the facility is currently in operation. The steam turbine supplied by MHI for Darajat II is in good working order. MHI's experience in Darajat II, together with its technical capability in the geothermal field, contributed to the repeat order for Darajat III.
Geothermal power generating systems are environmentally-friendly because no carbon dioxide is released by the generation process, and because they use renewable energy sources.
MHI continues to contribute to the protection of the environment through the supply of geothermal power systems. Developments such as the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, a global framework for the reduction of greenhouse gases, have increased the importance of this work.
