The Nippon Petroleum Refining Corporation launches commercial operations for its Muroran Refinery's Co-generation

On October 1st the Nippon Petroleum Refining Corporation launched commercial operations for its co-generation in the Muroran Refinery located at Muroran city, Japan. This plant is a base load type of plant which uses asphalt as its fuel source and is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) which came about in 1996 as a result of the Nippon Petroleum Corporation making the winning bid on Hokkaido Power's wholesale electricity recruitment project. This plant has a power generating capacity of 99MW with a maximum of 50 MW targeted to supply Hokkaido Electric Power. The Nippon Petroleum Corporation started advancing electricity wholesaling projects at all of its refineries beginning with its Osaka Refinery in July of 1998 and now has a total power generation rate of approximately 700MW with the launching of commercial operations at the refinery in question. With the high level of praise being given to the technological abilities of MHI, the Nippon Petroleum Corporation makes use of its products at all of its refineries
