Tobata Co-operative Thermal Power Co., Inc. completes construction of a second unit

On February 1st, Tobata Co-operative Thermal Power Co., Inc. (Kitakyushu-shi, Fukuoka-prefecture) completed construction of a by-product gas and coal mixed fired boiler of second unit.

The power station enhanced a boiler originally installed in 1971, with fuel conversion to coal and gas released as a by-product in the manufacture of steel (supplied by the Nippon Steel Corporation) as fuel. The other major installations apart from the boiler, such as the steam turbine, feed water and condensing system and electronic installations such as the generators and the transformers, make use of previous facilities contributing to the realization of a more cost-competitive operation.

The power station's boiler is the first unit in Japan to be able to achieve possible 100 % output, through coal combustion, gas combustion, or a combination of the two, making the power station extremely flexible in its operation.
In addition, by burning coal, the power station can effect a rapid change from 100 % output up to 30 % output. The power station has measures in place to counter its environmental impact, and passes the strictest of environmental standards.

Second power station - Specifications

Designated output : 156,000 kW
Steam flow rate : 510,000 kg/h
Steam pressure : 17.06 MPag (at the super-heater outlet)
