Commencement of Operations at IPP Plant at Nippon Petroleum Refining Company (NPRC) Marifu Refinery

On April 1, an IPP power generating facility commenced operations at the NPRC Marifu Refinery (Kuga-gun, Yamaguchi Prefecture). The facility is the IPP (Independent Power Producer) that resulted from NPRC's successful bid in FY 1997 to supply electricity wholesale to the Kansai Electric Power Company. The plant is a base load type that uses petroleum coke and residual oil as fuel. This is the first ever electricity trading venture in Japan that uses petroleum coke as fuel, and is the first plant applied the "Transfer and Supply System" that provides for the transmission of power to Kansai Electric Power Company the power lines of the Chugoku Electric Power Company.
