Wind turbines for the largest scale wind power plant in Japan, the Kamaishi Extensive Wind Farm, are advanced in the course of manufacturing

Japan's top domestic wind power developer, Eurus Energy Japan is currently working to develop its Kamaishi Extensive Wind Farm in Iwate prefecture's Kamaishi town, Tono town and Otsuchi town. The manufacturing of 43 units of 1,000 kW wind turbine is energetically being carried out at MHI's Nagasaki shipyard. In terms of both its overall output and number of wind turbines, this wind farm is the largest in Japan. This farm makes use of the MHI MWT-1000A wind turbine which makes it possible to realize the world's top efficiency in areas that do not feature strong wind currents.
Plans are in place to begin operations of this wind farm in November of 2004. Production of the blades began in June of 2003 at the specialized blade manufacturing at Kouyagi plant located in Nagasaki shipyard at a pace of 25-blades a month.
At the same location the assembly of nacelle compornents had started in the turbine plant around the end of October, 2003 and completion of the entire blades and nacelle is scheduled by the end of January, 2004.
In terms of both its overall output and number of windturbines this wind farm is the largest in Japan and is the first major domestic adoption its kind for MHI.
The wind power plant makes use of MHI's strategic MWT-1000A which makes it possible to realize the world's top efficiency standards even in areas that do not feature strong wind currents.
In the midst of trends that are overwhelmingly heading for the creation of ever larger machines, this type of highly efficient and reliable mid-size machinery is rapidly grabbing up larger shares of both domestic and foreign wind power markets with its ability to work with the uniquely uneven geographical terrain and difficult wind conditions of Japan.
In recent year expectations have been growing that the MWT-1000A would become the top seller in Japan and we can be sure that a new trend in wind power is about to be launched from Nagasaki.
