Seto Town (Japan) holds a Wind Hill Festival



On October 4th, Seto town (Ehime Prefecture in Japan) held a "Wind Hill Festival" to commemorate the completion of a wind farm comprised of 11 sets of 1,000 kW wind turbines. This firm is being operated by MHI and the local Seto township goverment. Thousands of people participated in this event, including local residents and visitors. At the festival, the wind hill park area was formally named as the "Seto Wind Hill Park".
The main event was the "Children's Wind Conference" where assistant professor Tsuyoshi Imamura of the Space Flight Research and Development Agency delivered a speech entitled, "The wind of earth, the wind of space," about how wind occurs and explained the special features of the planets of the solar system.
Other features of the festival included flying bamboo toys, pinwheels for enjoying the wind and an explanation of how the wind is used to generate electricity. The festival also included a "Wind Hill Haiku Bus Tour"
This wind farm began operating on October 1st in Seto Town and consists of 11 wind-power turbines installed on nearby hill called Dekka plateau. The facility has become a symbol of the town and serves as a tourist attraction. MHI is putting major efforts into helping to create new energy sources that will contribute to the development of local areas.
