MHI Receives a Bulk Order for 10 Gas Turbines from China's First, Large-scale Natural-Gas-Fired Power Plants |

MHI, in cooperation with Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation
and Dongfang Electric Corporation of China(DEC), has received a bulk order from
China for major power generation equipment, including 10 gas turbines. The equipment
will be installed in China's first, large-scale natural-gas-fired combined cycle
power plants. The signing ceremony took place on March 6th, 2003, in Beijing,
China, and was attended by officials from the Chinese government and executives
of the electric power companies to which the equipment is to be supplied, Mitsubishi
group companies concerned and DEC.
The Mitsubishi group has received the bulk order for the following four sites:
| Beijing region |
: |
Beijing No.3 Thermal Power Plant |
|
350 MW (megawatts) x 1 unit |
| Guangdong region |
: |
Huizhou LPG Power Plant |
|
350 MW x 3 units |
| |
|
Shenzhen Qianwan Power Plant |
|
350 MW x 3 units |
| |
|
Shenzhen Eastern Power Plant |
|
350 MW x 3 units |
These power plants are scheduled for commissioning between
2005 and 2007; hence the manufacturing of equipment is required to start immediately.
This gas turbine bulk project is based on China's policy to build a number of
power generation plants throughout China, utilizing clean and high efficiency
gas turbines. The fuel gas to be used for power generation will be supplied through
pipelines from inland China (West-East Gas Transmission Project) that the Chinese
government has been developing based on its 10th National 5 Year Plan, as well
as LNG terminal in Guangdong Province, which is currently under construction.
MHI and DEC will pursue further opportunities for the marketing of gas turbines
in China on a long-term basis, as the market is expected to be more active in
the future. For this purpose, MHI and DEC have decided to manufacture gas turbine
parts and assemble gas turbines at DEC. Additionally, the manufacture of major
gas turbine components and provision of post-operation repair and maintenance
services will be conducted by their joint venture company that will be established
in China.
To present, MHI has delivered many coal-fired thermal power generation facilities
to China, and has earned high reputation from the electric power industry in China
so far. This deal will mark MHI's new step in its commitment to greatly contribute
to the Chinese power generation market in the area of gas-fired thermal power
generation. |
