MHI, in cooperation with Itochu, has received an order from the government of Mongolia (Ministry of Infrastructure) related to the up-grading of the mill system for four Russian-made, 420t/hr, lignite-fired boilers located at the 4th Thermal Power Plant in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This Project is based on an agreement between the government of Japan and the government of Mongolia for financing in the form of a yen-base government loan to be handled by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. The decrease in auxiliary power consumption of the mill systems and, a simultaneous increase in the reliability of these systems will be achieved by converting the present semi-direct combustion system (Tube mill x 2 per boiler) to a direct combustion system(Vertical mill x 4 per boiler). There is high amount of moisture in the lignite coal and during the fuel drying phase, a large amount of heat energy is consumed. As a key feature of the up-graded system, the furnace outlet gas and the boiler outlet gas will be mixed with air to control the temperature of the resulting gas that will be used to dry the lignite coal (brown coal) and transport it directly to the boiler. The first boiler will be in operation by September 2004 and the others will go into operation in the following period, ending in December 2005. |
