Sumitomo Joint Electric Power Co. Ltd. Nyugawa Thermal Power Station #1 Boiler initial firing ceremony

An inaugural ceremony of the initial firing of Sumitomo Joint Electric Power Co. Ltd. Nyugawa Thermal Power Station #1 Boiler was held on October 18, 2002.
This Power Station was originally constructed in 1975 and has a maximum output of 250MW, making it the largest power facility of Sumitomo Joint Electric Power Co. Ltd. However, in order to lower fuel costs, with the objective of converting the fuel oil to coal, the boiler and the exhaust gas processing system are replaced.
MHI is supplying 815t/h capacity, sub-critical pressure boiler, emission gas NOx and SOx removal system, electrostatic precipitator and ash handling equipment required for the fuel conversion. The plan is to use the existing turbine system as much as feasible and special care has been taken in the design to integrate the boiler and turbine smoothly.
The environmental requirements of the project are achieved by utilizing a low NOx borner and high performance exhaust gas emission processing system.
The integrated operating control system consists of some existing and new control equipment will be located and run from the central control room using the system CRTs. This control system will reduce the number of control room personnel, when compound to existing control system.
The facility will be switchover to coal firing, and various tests will be carried out on the equipment and systems to accomplish the commercial operations in March 2003.
