Chugoku Electric Power’s Okutsu #2 Power Station Facility Begins Commercial Operation

vertical deriaz-type pump turbine
The order for the 15,200kW vertical deriaz-type pump turbine of this Chugoku Electric Power’s Okutsu #2 Power Station was awarded September 1998. The manufacturing, installation and commission was completed with a perfect safety record and on September 3rd, this facility began commercial operation. This power generating facility is located in the Chugoku Region in the northern part of Okayama Prefecture Japan and is near Okutsu Hot Spring. With the completion of the Tomata Dam, the Kuta power generating facility and the upstream Hade power generating facility were submerged and, as a redevelopment project, the Okutsu Power Station was built to replace them.

The water turbine that has gone into operation this time was chosen because of the highly evaluated performance of the 7,300kW Yasaka Power Station equipment supplied to Chugoku Electric Power in 1988. Thus, it appears that with this success, it will be possible to expand sales of vertical deriaz-type pump turbines.
