Order received for two 600MW super-critical turbines for the Qinbei Power Plant (China)

MHI concluded an agreement in June of this year with China Huaneng Group to supply the main parts for the super-critical steam turbines for the Qinbei Thermal Power Plant to the Harbin Turbine Company (Referred to as "Harbin" below. Head office located in Harbin City in Liaoning Province).
This project was based on a bid that required a foreign maker to supply technical assistance to a Chinese turbine maker with no experience in the area of super-critical steam turbines and, in addition to Harbin, many other large Chinese turbine makers paired up with experienced foreign makers to participate in the bidding process.
During the competitive bidding process, the CP-1 super-critical steam pressure turbine facility handled for Houshi (Fujian Province) and MHI’ related technology and actual business experience in this area was highly evaluated by the end-user, China Huaneng Group, and thus, MHI was able to team up with Harbin and successfully land the contract.
This project in Henan Province in China is the first super-critical steam-use power plant project that is being financed by local Chinese capital. The plan includes two generating systems with each system consisting of a 600 MW coal-fired, super-critical steam turbine.
Added together, the two new thermal electric power-generating systems have a total capacity of 1,200MW.
The current plan is to begin operations using these systems as end of 2004.
The project this time is based on an agreement that MHI supply the most important main parts of the turbines to Harbin, including the high and middle-range pressure turbine blades, and that Harbin will supply the other parts.
