Commercial operation of two 600kW wind-powered generating systems underway in the Goto Islands area, Japan

Two new 600 kW MWT-600 wind-powered generating systems located at Tomie-cho on Fukue Island in the Goto Islands area in Japan have begun commercial operation.
A third-sector company, the Goto Wind-Powered Electric Generating Company, Ltd., is operating these two wind-powered generating systems. This company was established as a joint investment involving prominent local area companies and the local township of Tomie. MHI also invested 14.5%. This is a very good example of investment in wind-powered electric power generation and is also being viewed by many as indicating a new stage of involvement by MHI in the wind-powered electric generating business and its future development.
The wind-powered generating systems that have just started commercial operation this time are MWT-600 equipment that is enjoying good sales both within Japan and overseas and is being highly evaluated for its reliability.
The rotor diameter is 45 meters. The hub is located 50 meters above the ground, based on analysis of local wind conditions. The remote monitoring system that was delivered along with the rotor and the other equipment makes it possible to check the operating state of the system from the customer’s offices in real time. It is also possible to use this remote monitoring system to start and stop the equipment. In addition, monitoring is also possible from the Wind Power Project Room located in the grounds of MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard & machinery works. Thus, in the unlikely event of any problem, MHI is able to respond immediately. In the case of wind-powered generation of electric power, it is very important to have as little malfunction downtime as possible. Thus, MHI’s overall support and its ability to respond quickly if a problem arises is a strong source of both confidence and satisfaction on the part of MHI customers.
