145 MW Nippon Steel Corporation Muroran No. 5

Unit No. 5 with a boiler and turbine(450 tons per hour, 145 thousand kilowatts) delivered to Nippon Steel Corporation Muroran Works has started supplying Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. with electric power.
This power plant has achieved highly efficient combustion and environmental load reduction by employing a boiler that has adopted circular ultra-firing (CUF), PM (pollution minimum) burner for finely powdered coal produced by a double-staged classifier type vertical mill.
In striving to further reduce fuel cost, the boiler is designed to serve as equipment capable of burning various by-product gases (BFG, COG and LDG) in addition to its main fuel of coal.
The steam turbine has achieved a high level of efficiency by adopting a sliding-pressure operation, highly efficient blade rows, and an axial-flow exhaust system. Moreover, thanks to the axial-flow exhaust system, the turbine pedestal could be established at a low level above the floor. In addition, efforts were made to reduce the cost of the turbine building by locating the condenser outdoors.
