MHI to Transfer Industrial Thermal Power Plant Domestic Business Operations to MHIPEC
- Organization Reform for High Quality Service and Quick Response to Customers -

Tokyo May 30, 2013 - Effective October 1, 2013, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will transfer its industrial thermal power plant business* for Japanese domestic customers (currently operated by the MHI Power Systems and Engineering Headquarters) to MHI Plant Engineering Co., Ltd. (MHIPEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of MHI. MHI will strengthen the quality of services to customers and enhance operational efficiency by optimizing its operational organization under MHIPEC where whole activities such as marketing, engineering, construction, and after-sales service will be integrated more comprehensively and efficiently.

As a result of this reorganization, MHIPEC will take over whole operational resources of MHI including human resources, intellectual properties, intangible assets and related contracts which are required for industrial thermal power plant business for domestic customers with respect to marketing, engineering, construction, and after-sales service, while MHI will continue to supply power generating equipment such as boilers and gas and steam turbines.

Demand for industrial thermal power plant has been growing in Japan after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, from industrial power users seeking for private power plant, or from newly emerging PPS (power producers and suppliers). In order to promptly meet this demand, MHI expects further enhancement of competitiveness, flexibility and agility of its business development and decided to integrate the operational functions in a single entity to realize more quick decision and quick response to customers.

MHI will continue to work closely with MHIPEC and provide its full support to its business development.

Note: Industrial thermal power plant business primarily deal with industrial power users such as steel mill, oil and gas plant, chemical plant, paper mill, textile industry etc. requiring the private power supply unit in their plant and with independent power producers (IPP) and power producers and suppliers (PPS).
