| Full-Turnkey Order for 740 MW Combined-Cycle Power Plant |
| Tokyo, February 10, 2004 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), together with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and local company have received the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) full-turnkey order from PT. PLN (Persero), Indonesia's state-owned electricity company, to supply a 740 MW gas turbine combined-cycle (GTCC) power plant. With the revival of the economy, the demand of electricity in Indonesia is increasing rapidly (approximately 6% p.a. or more) and in order to alleviate the electricity shortage which is expected to occur in year 2005, the Indonesian government and PT.PLN have decided to pass an urgent order to MHI, which has various experiences for supplying the power plant in Indonesia. The 740 MW GTCC power plant consists of two gas turbines, one steam turbine, and two heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and will be constructed at Cilegon in Banten Province which is located at 90 kilometers west of Jakarta, Indonesia. MHI will supply two M701F gas turbines which will be the first high output, high-efficiency gas turbine in Indonesia, a steam turbine, two HRSGs as well as other peripheral equipment such as electric generators. Operation of this power plant will be sequentially commenced from year 2005 to first half of 2006. This contract will be executed on a full-turnkey basis, with local company taking charge of civil engineering works, installation of equipment, and associated transmission line . The fund for this project is under final negotiation between Indonesian Government and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), as well as Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) under the export credit basis. Cilegon area is the center of Indonesia's heavy and chemical industry with many steel plants and petrochemical plants operating in the area. In West Java, including Cilegon, demand for electricity is high and is growing continuously. To eliminate the concern over the future shortage of the electricity expected from 2005, PT. PLN decided to build the new power plant at Cilegon using PLN's own land and utilizing the available natural gas. The past construction record and high technical capabilities of MHI's combined cycle power plants were highly evaluated by the Indonesian state owned power company, which leads to this contract signing. MHI has previously received orders for Gresik GTCC power plant in 1990 and Grati GTCC power plant in 1994 from PT. PLN (Persero) by utilizing the same financing scheme, JBIC's export credit. Combined-cycle power plant is the type of power generation that uses gas turbine and steam turbine in combination for two-stage electricity generation. Utilizing high exhaust temperature from gas turbine, the first stage, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) produces steam that is used for steam turbine for the second stage electricity generation. # # #
