MHI to Exhibit Machine Tools at EMO MILAN 2003
Tokyo, October 20, 2003 -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), will exhibit four machine tools, including one machining center, at EMO MILAN 2003 trade fair to be held in Milan, Italy from October 21 to 28. Italy is a prime European market for the company's machine tools, along with Turkey, Spain and the United Kingdom, and by participating in the Milan show MHI aims to boost its marketing activities especially to the local automobile manufacturing industry throughout Europe, including Russia, as well as to Japanese companies operating in the region.

M-V4050

The highlight of the MHI exhibition (booth #18-H05) will be the "M-V4050," a state-of-the-art vertical machining center that enables heavy cutting with a fast spindle speed of 14,000 revolutions per minute. The M-V4050 also reduces non-cutting operation time significantly through adoption of a high-speed automatic tool changer driven by inverter motor and a rapid traverse rate of 42 meters/minute for all axes.

The other three machines to be exhibited and demonstrated are:
- M-V50-FM: a high-precision die & mold machining system offering accuracy to less than 0.005mm (millimeter) allowance;
- GE15A: the newest super-dry gear-hobbing machine for gear cutting;
- GN25A: a horizontal super-dry gear-hobbing machine.

All four units are expected to impress visitors with their superior performance and advanced technologies.

MHI has been focusing its machine tool marketing initiatives in Europe on the auto and aircraft parts industries as well as manufacturers of dies and general parts. Sales operations are presently conducted through agents established in nine countries, including Italy and U.K. The decision to participate in EMO MILAN 2003 was reached in tandem with the European launch this August of two new machining centers, the M-V4050 (vertical) and M-H4050 (horizontal). The event is expected to further spur MHI's marketing activities and market development in the region.

In particular, MHI intends to promote production lines that integrate component machines, such as machining centers and gear-cutting machines, for applications especially in the manufacture of engines and transmission systems. The company aims to win full-turnkey orders for these production lines made possible through its comprehensive engineering capabilities.

MHI already operates a technical center in the Netherlands for marketing and after-sale servicing of machine tools. The center has won high acclaim for its capacity to provide a full menu of solutions tailored to customer requirements, from technical studies during the planning phase of the production system to full after-sale services.
