Opening Ceremony Held for Outsourced Injection
Molding Machine Production Plant in China
Oil-Pressure Machine Assembly and Production Shift
to Full Scale
Tokyo, July 17, 2003 --- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) held an opening ceremony to mark the completion of a plant in Zhejiang Province for HANGZHOU KANON MACHINERY CO.,LTD., with which it had concluded a production outsourcing agreement for injection molding machines. The opening ceremony was attended by over 100 people, including Hangzhou Xiaoshan District People's Government Head of the District Chen Ru-fang and HANGZHOU KANON MACHINERY CO.,LTD. President Shan xiao nong as well as MHI Director and Overseas Strategy Division Manager Hideo Egawa and Director and Production Machinery Division Manager Kototsugu Taniguchi. Some production has already been under way, but on the occasion of the opening ceremony, production will shift toward full-scale.

The completed plant consists of two buildings, with areas of 3,200m2 and 2,000m2. Construction began last November, and was completed this May. The plant's start-up has progressed smoothly, with production beginning at the end of May, and the first lot being shipped in June.

The plant assembles the injection, clamp, and panel units of medium-sized oil-pressure injection molding machines with clamp force of 350-850 tons. It can assemble about 200 machines per year.

The injection molding machines are produced by procuring parts from China. However, the aim behind this unit assembly is to accumulate technical know-how in preparation for future local production.

Manufacture of core parts such as screws and controllers, final assembly, and pre-shipping performance checks of the completed machines will be done in Japan.

HANGZHOU KANON MACHINERY CO.,LTD., headquartered in Xiaoshan Economic and Technology Development Zone, Zhejiang in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is a manufacturer of machinery, including injection molding machines. Its business relationship with MHI dates back 10 years. Last September, MHI and HANGZHOU KANON MACHINERY CO.,LTD. concluded a production outsourcing agreement for medium-sized oil-pressure injection molding machines.

For the time being, the main form of production will be assembly, but in the future, it is envisaged that production will expand to encompass finished products, including electric-powered machines. Appropriate local arrangements will be made toward this goal.
