| Tokyo, June 23, 2003 --- On June 18 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) was
awarded contracts from Taiwan Power Company for a gas turbine combined cycle power
plant, for which MHI has bid jointly with Mitsubishi Corporation. The contracts
are worth approximately 200 billion yen. This power station will be constructed in Dah Tarn, Taoyuan Hsien, in northern Taiwan. With a total output of 4,200 megawatts, it will be the world's largest gas turbine combined cycle power plant. This power station will be constructed in two stages. Stage I consists of two blocks of 3 on 1 configuration with M501F gas turbines (total:1,400 megawatts) , and Stage II of four blocks of 2 on 1 configuration with M501G gas turbines (total:2,800 megawatts) . MHI will execute the contracts on a turnkey basis, and manufacture 14 gas turbines, 6 steam turbines and 14 heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will manufacture 20 generators. Commencement of commercial operation is planned from June 2005 to September 2006 for Stage I facilities, and sequentially from February 2008 to May 2010 for Stage II facilities. MHI won the contracts award, through tough competition with General Electric of the U.S.A. and Alstom of France, and positive evaluation by Taiwan Power Company for MHI's overall capabilities including the performance of its gas turbines.
